From Sep 3 to Sep 5, I explored Savannah, where historic streets, grand homes, shaded squares, and riverfront views reflect its unmistakable Southern character. My stay at Marriott Riverfront made it easy to experience the city’s historic surroundings, memorable food stops, and refreshing coastal side.

Along the Historic Riverfront

I spent time walking along River Street, taking in its cobblestone surroundings, historic buildings, and views of the Savannah River. The riverfront carried a lively atmosphere, with people, shops, restaurants, and the movement of ships adding character to the experience. Staying at Marriott Riverfront made this part of Savannah feel especially accessible and became a comfortable base for exploring the city.

Sweet Stops & Southern Streets

A visit to Leopold’s Ice Cream added a classic Savannah treat to the journey and was one of those simple stops that became part of the overall experience. I also spent time around Forsyth Park, enjoying its open spaces and the city’s famous fountain before continuing through the historic surroundings. Walking along Jones Street gave me another look at Savannah’s character, with its beautiful historic homes and tree-lined streets creating a scene that felt almost too carefully designed to be real.

Beneath the Oaks of Wormsloe

One of the most striking experiences of my visit was seeing the famous Wormsloe Oak Tree Arch, where towering live oaks form a dramatic natural avenue. The scenery offered a different side of Savannah beyond the busy streets and riverfront, surrounded by Spanish moss and the quiet beauty of Georgia’s Lowcountry. The oak-lined entrance is one of Savannah’s most recognizable sights, and experiencing it in person made it easy to understand why.

History, Food & Unexpected Discoveries

The journey continued with a visit to the Prohibition Museum, offering a fascinating look into a distinctive chapter of American history. Food added another memorable layer to my Savannah experience, including a stop at Le Banh for Vietnamese cuisine and a welcome change of flavors along the journey. Each experience brought something different to the trip, from historic stories to simple meals, proving once again that travel itineraries become far more memorable when history and food cooperate.

A Coastal Break Beyond the City

Before leaving Savannah, I spent time at an island beach, trading historic streets and riverfront scenery for open skies and coastal surroundings. The change of pace offered a refreshing contrast to the city’s architecture and busy neighborhoods. It became a peaceful way to round off my Savannah chapter before continuing further along the Southern journey.
