From Aug 29 to Aug 31, I experienced New Orleans as a city full of character, color, music, and flavors that seemed to appear around every corner. My stay at Marriott gave me a comfortable base as I moved through the city’s historic streets, lively neighborhoods, and unmistakable Southern atmosphere.

Walking Through the Heart of the City

We spent time exploring the energy of Bourbon Street, while the walk through Royal Street revealed a different side of the city, shaped by historic architecture, galleries, shops, and street life. Canal Street connected many parts of my journey through the city, while the surrounding streets offered plenty to take in at my own pace. The contrast between these areas made every walk feel different, moving from lively crowds to quieter corners filled with old-world character.

The French Quarter & Its Unmistakable Charm

The French Quarter became one of the central experiences of my visit, with its narrow streets, historic buildings, music, and constant sense of movement. I spent time around Jackson Square, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, before continuing through the surrounding streets and taking in the atmosphere that makes this neighborhood so distinctive. Later, I explored Frenchmen Street, where the city’s musical character and nightlife created a completely different rhythm from the daytime streets.

Beignets, Daiquiris & Local Flavors

No visit to New Orleans would have felt complete without stopping at Café du Monde for its famous beignets, one of those simple travel experiences that somehow becomes part of the memory of an entire city. I also enjoyed daiquiris while exploring the lively surroundings and made my way through the French Market, where I stopped at Meals From the Heart Café for a vegan Philly. Between familiar local flavors and unexpected food discoveries, eating my way through the city became just as memorable as exploring its landmarks.

Beyond the Streets: Swamps, Parks & Streetcars

A Cajun swamp tour took me beyond the city and into a completely different Louisiana landscape, offering a change from the busy streets and historic neighborhoods. Back in New Orleans, I explored City Park and the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, where art and nature came together among landscaped paths and centuries-old trees. Riding the historic trams added another layer to the experience, while time around the Garden District offered a quieter look at the city’s distinctive architecture and tree-lined surroundings.
