From Sep 5 to Sep 6, I explored Charleston, where historic streets, waterfront views, colorful homes, and Southern character came together to create a memorable final chapter of the journey. My stay at Renaissance Hotel provided a comfortable base for exploring the city’s lively streets, historic landmarks, and food scene.
I spent time along King Street, exploring one of Charleston’s most lively and historic stretches, before continuing towards The Battery and Patriots Point. The waterfront surroundings and historic character offered a glimpse into Charleston’s connection with its past and its coastal setting.
Walking past Rainbow Row was one of the visual highlights of my visit, with its colorful historic homes creating one of Charleston’s most recognizable streetscapes. The surrounding historic neighborhoods and beautifully preserved architecture added to the charm of exploring the city on foot.
I continued towards the Pineapple Fountain along the waterfront, enjoying views of the harbor and the relaxed surroundings. A visit to the Charleston City Market added another side to the experience, with local crafts, souvenirs, and the energy of one of the city’s best-known historic spaces.
Food became another memorable part of my short stay, beginning with lunch at Basic Kitchen and continuing with dinner at The Watch Rooftop Kitchen & Spirits, where I enjoyed fried green tomatoes alongside rooftop views. These stops offered a delicious way to experience Charleston’s modern food culture alongside its historic surroundings.
Before leaving Savannah, I spent time at an island beach, trading historic streets and riverfront scenery for open skies and coastal surroundings. The change of pace offered a refreshing contrast to the city’s architecture and busy neighborhoods. It became a peaceful way to round off my Savannah chapter before continuing further along the Southern journey.
Shem Creek was on my plans, but I unfortunately missed visiting it during this short stay. Sometimes travel schedules win, because apparently even vacations insist on reminding us that time is a limited resource.
