Vancouver
Vancouver A Pacific Northwest Escape Vancouver is one of those places that just has it all—gorgeous scenery, a lively city vibe, and endless things to do. From ocean views to stunning parks, every moment here feels like a postcard. My trip from June 14 to 16 was packed with amazing sights, local spots, and just the right amount of adventure. Cruising into Vancouver The trip started with a ride on the Swartz Bay Ferry, and honestly, it felt more like a mini-cruise. The fresh ocean breeze, beautiful islands, and even the chance to spot whales made it an unforgettable ride. It’s the kind of experience that makes you slow down and soak it all in. Beyond the Tourist Hotspots Instead of the usual stops like Lions Gate Bridge or Capilano Suspension Bridge, I took a different route to explore the city. The Vancouver City Tour gave me a feel for the place—modern glass towers, cool little neighborhoods, and gorgeous waterfront views everywhere. I spent time at Granville Island, which is packed with artsy shops, street performers, and a public market full of delicious food. I grabbed some fresh seafood and just enjoyed the laid-back vibes. Chinatown was another cool stop—walking through its historic streets and grabbing some dim sum made for a perfect afternoon. A Floral Retreat Crossing into Washington, I found myself at the Rose Garden in Washington Park, a peaceful oasis that was in full bloom. The sight of thousands of colorful roses against the backdrop of the city skyline was a moment of pure serenity. Next up was the Furry Creek Golf Course, often called one of the most scenic golf courses in Canada. Even if you’re not a golfer, this place is worth a visit just for the jaw-dropping views of the ocean and mountains. Wrapping Up the Trip After an amazing trip, I dropped off the rental car in downtown Vancouver and checked into the Sheraton Wall Centre. The views from the hotel were incredible, especially at night when the city lights reflected off the glass buildings. Sitting by the window with a drink in hand, I couldn’t help but think—Vancouver is one of those places you never really want to leave. Have more time? Victoria
Victoria Gardens, Castles & Coastal Charms There’s something special about arriving in Victoria by sea. As the 8:10 AM Black Ball Ferry carried me from Port Angeles to Vancouver Island, I watched the misty coastline come into view, knowing a day of lush gardens, historic elegance, and coastal charm awaited me. A Blooming Welcome at Butchart Gardens No visit to Victoria is complete without stepping into Butchart Gardens, a floral wonderland that feels like a scene from a fairy tale. As I wandered through the Sunken Garden, the cascading greenery and vibrant blooms left me in awe. The Japanese Garden, with its peaceful bridges and koi ponds, felt like a hidden oasis. The Butterfly Garden, Miniature World, and the Bug Zoo gave me more time to soak in the beauty without rushing. Instead, I found a quiet bench, sipped on a warm cup of tea, and simply enjoyed the fragrance of flowers in the breeze. A Step Back in Time From one stunning garden to another, my next stop was Hatley Castle, a grand estate with a history as captivating as its architecture. Once a lavish home, then a military college, and now part of Royal Roads University, the castle’s stone façade and perfectly manicured gardens transported me to a different era. Walking through the Italian and Japanese gardens, I imagined the aristocratic life once lived here, with afternoon teas overlooking the ocean. The Soul of Victoria Beyond its famous landmarks, Victoria itself is a city that begs to be explored. Strolling along the Inner Harbour, I watched street performers, admired the iconic Empress Hotel, and breathed in the crisp Pacific air. Even without stepping inside, the grandeur of British Columbia’s Parliament Buildings was a sight to behold. A Perfectly Curated Day Skipping the usual tourist attractions let me experience Victoria at my own pace, without the rush. From the floral artistry of Butchart Gardens to the timeless elegance of Hatley Castle, the day felt like a perfect mix of nature, history, and relaxed island charm. As the ferry carried me back to Port Angeles, I knew this was more than just a day trip—it was a glimpse into the refined beauty that makes Victoria truly special. 🌿 Have more time? Port Angeles
Port Angeles A Spooky and Enchanting Escape into the Wild Port Angeles wasn’t just a destination; it was a feeling—wild, mysterious, and breathtakingly beautiful. From eerie rainforests draped in mist to waves crashing against driftwood-strewn beaches, every moment here felt like a scene from a story waiting to be told. Into the Heart of Olympic National Park The drive into Olympic National Park felt like stepping into another world. Roads wound through towering evergreens, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and pine. The Hoh Rain Forest, where moss-covered trees stood like ancient sentinels. The silence was almost eerie—just the soft rustling of leaves and distant calls of birds. Walking through this emerald dreamscape, I half-expected to see a mythical creature lurking in the shadows. Beaches That Tell Their Own Stories As the sun began to dip, I made my way to Kalaloch Lodge, my home for the night. Nestled along the coast, it was the perfect spot to soak in the moody beauty of Ruby Beach. The ocean roared against the shore, giant driftwood logs scattered like forgotten relics. There’s something about standing by the Pacific, watching the tide roll in, that makes you feel both incredibly small and completely alive. Chasing Waterfalls & Hidden Wonders Morning brought another adventure—hunting down waterfalls. Sol Duc Falls was a mesmerizing sight, its rushing waters plunging into a mossy canyon. But the real magic was at Lonely Falls, a hidden gem tucked deep in the wilderness. No crowds, no noise—just the soothing sound of water tumbling over rocks and the feeling of having discovered something secret, something special. A Lavender-Scented Escape & A Meal to Remember After days of misty forests and salty sea air, I needed a change of pace. Enter Washington Lavender Farm, a picture-perfect oasis just outside of Port Angeles. Rows of purple stretched endlessly, the scent of lavender lingering in the breeze. It was peaceful, calming—a soft contrast to the wild landscapes I had explored. Hunger finally caught up with me, and I found myself at Thai Sabai, a local favorite running for ten years. One bite of their rich, coconut-infused curry, and I understood why. Sometimes, the best meals aren’t fancy—they’re the ones that feel like home, even when you’re miles away. A City That Stays With You My final stop: the Red Lion Hotel, where my window overlooked the dark waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The wind howled outside, and I could see distant lights flickering across the water. Port Angeles had a way of feeling both remote and familiar, a place where nature ruled but still made room for those who sought its beauty. Have more time?
