Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and nestled beside the stunning Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown is a paradise for adventure seekers, food lovers, and nature enthusiasts alike. From breathtaking drives to indulgent tastings, every moment in this South Island gem feels like a dream.
My Queenstown experience started at Crowne Plaza Queenstown, a hotel that seamlessly blends comfort with breathtaking views. Waking up to the view of glistening waters and towering mountains was the perfect start to the journey. With its prime location, everything was within walking distance, making it an ideal place to stay and explore.
The drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy was an adventure by itself—twisty roads hugged the profound blue lake, each turn yielding scenery fit for postcards. I made several stops at vista points along the way, absorbing the pristine charm of the Southern Alps. It is no surprise this area was used as a shooting location for The Lord of the Rings!
One of the highlights of my visit was going to a local farm with animals, where I was able to feed amiable alpacas, sheep, and even a Highland cow. The backdrop was like a storybook—gently rolling hills, clean mountain air, and the soothing sounds of nature. It was the best way to unwind and bond with nature.
No visit to Queenstown would be complete without trying New Zealand’s renowned wines and The Winery is the ideal destination to do so. With an amazing array of Central Otago wines, I tasted everything from rich Pinot Noirs to refreshing Sauvignon Blancs. The warm atmosphere and friendly staff made it a tasting experience to remember.
For a foodie, Queenstown has plenty of treats, and Mrs. Ferg’s is the place to go for indulgence.
🍔 Mrs. Ferg’s Burgers – The stacked gourmet burgers were everything they were cracked up to be, overflowing with fresh, tasty ingredients. I ordered the traditional New Zealand beef burger, and it was hands down one of the best I’ve ever eaten.
🍦 Mrs. Ferg’s Ice Cream – Following my burger, I couldn’t help but indulge in a scoop (or two) of their decadent Hokey Pokey ice cream, a Kiwi classic packed with crunchy caramel toffee pieces.
🥐 Mrs. Ferg’s Bakery – The next morning, I stopped by for a buttery croissant and hot coffee, the ideal pick-me-up for another day of adventure.
Queenstown is a destination that combines adventure and relaxation, where you’re driving an epic road trip one moment and indulging in world-class wine the next. Whether it’s the stunning scenery, the friendly hospitality, or the outstanding food, this quaint town makes a lasting impression that stays with you long after you depart.
