Our October 20–27 journey took us across some of California’s most contrasting landscapes. We began at Lassen National Park, from there, we headed toward the extraordinary desert scenery of Death Valley National Park, where vast salt flats, sand dunes, and colorful desert formations made the landscape feel almost otherworldly. We finished among the towering coastal redwoods of Redwood National and State Parks, trading desert heat and volcanic terrain for misty forests, winding roads, and some of the tallest trees on Earth.

California surprised us with how dramatically its landscapes could change within a single journey. At Lassen National Park, we walked through a volcanic world shaped by eruptions and geothermal activity. Death Valley National Park brought a completely different experience, with immense desert spaces stretching between rugged mountain ranges. Finally, the journey ended beneath the towering redwoods of the northern coast, where ancient forests and misty trails created a peaceful finale.
Lassen Volcanic National Park is a landscape shaped by fire and water, where volcanic peaks rise above mountain lakes, meadows, forests, and steaming hydrothermal areas. Scenic drives, hiking trails, alpine scenery, and volcanic features make the park a fascinating blend of geology and wilderness.
Death Valley National Park is a land of extraordinary contrasts, stretching across immense salt flats, sand dunes, rugged mountains, colorful badlands, and deep desert valleys. Famous for its extreme environment, the park also offers spectacular viewpoints, hiking routes, scenic drives, historic sites, and remarkable night skies.
An extraordinary coastal ecosystem dominated by some of the tallest trees on Earth. The enormous coastal redwoods of Redwood National and State Parks surrounded us with towering trees, lush forests, winding roads, and a peaceful coastal atmosphere. The parks protect some of the tallest trees on Earth, along with a diverse landscape stretching from forests to beaches.
