Calgary

Calgary Wandering Calgary: Where History, Hunger & High Rises Meet Calgary Diaries: City Charm, Wild West Echoes, and a 4AM Food Craving Calgary surprised me. I went in expecting a quiet prairie city—and came out totally charmed. It’s got that polished downtown vibe, a dose of cowboy nostalgia, modern comforts, and, unexpectedly, some of the best late-night food stories I’ve ever gathered. Downtown Vibes & Garden Escapes We kicked things off in Downtown Calgary, and it didn’t disappoint. The city skyline, modern buildings, and clean streets made it feel alive but not overwhelming. Tucked right in the middle of it is The CORE Shopping Centre, which, yes, has shops—but also an indoor tropical garden atrium that feels like a hidden oasis. You can sip coffee while surrounded by palm trees and natural light—who would’ve thought? Just outside, Stephen Avenue Walk is where the energy really comes alive. It’s a pedestrian street lined with heritage buildings, quirky shops, live music, and patios buzzing with conversation. It’s a great place to people-watch, wander, or grab a bite. A Taste of The Coup Speaking of bites—The Coup was a standout. A trendy, cozy vegetarian restaurant in the Beltline area, this place made even a devout carnivore in our group rethink their dinner habits. Everything felt fresh, flavorful, and made with intention. The vibe? Friendly, hip, and just a little bit artsy. Back in Time at the Heritage Park Historical Village We wanted a taste of old-school Calgary, so we made our way to the Heritage Center, which feels like walking through a movie set of the Wild West. Wooden storefronts, vintage trains, costumed interpreters—it’s immersive and fun. You can hop on an old steam train, visit a turn-of-the-century village, or even stop by a working bakery. It’s part museum, part time machine. Our Stay: Fairfield Inn Comfort After a full day of walking, exploring, and snacking, we checked into the Fairfield Inn—clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. Sometimes that’s all you need. A cozy bed and reliable breakfast go a long way when you’re out adventuring all day. The Singapore Spice 4AM Story Now for the curveball—Singapore Spice at 4AM. Yes, you read that right. It was one of those late-night travel moments where jet lag meets random hunger. We ended up at this low-key Asian spot that somehow had its kitchen open in the dead of night. There’s something magical about a steaming plate of noodles and spicy curry hitting the table while the world outside is fast asleep. Unexpected, unfiltered, unforgettable. Have more time? Take a deeper dive… Dive Deeper into These Destinations Calgary Tower – For panoramic views of the city and the Rockies. The glass floor adds a fun thrill for brave visitors! Jasper

Jasper Jasper Adventures: A Family Journey Through Glaciers and Waterfalls Jasper & the Icefields Parkway: A Journey Through the Heart of the Rockies Driving through the Canadian Rockies feels like flipping through the pages of a nature documentary. Towering mountains, ancient glaciers, turquoise lakes—it’s all real, and it’s absolutely breathtaking. On our recent trip, we explored some of the most iconic spots along the Columbia Icefields Parkway and into Jasper National Park, and honestly, it was one jaw-dropping moment after another. Athabasca Glacier – Walking on Ice, Literally The adventure started at the Athabasca Glacier, part of the mighty Columbia Icefield. You can actually walk on the glacier (with a guided tour), and it’s an experience like no other—crunching across thousands of years of ice while surrounded by towering peaks. There’s a surreal stillness to it, and the moment you scoop up some ice-cold glacial water to sip? Pure magic. Athabasca Falls – Power Meets Beauty Just a short drive from the glacier, we stopped at Athabasca Falls, and wow—this place packs a punch. The force of the water surging through the narrow canyon is something you feel in your chest. There are plenty of lookout points, each offering a slightly different perspective, and you can get surprisingly close to the falls. Columbia Icefields Parkway – A Drive to Remember If there’s one road trip you do in your life, let it be this one. The Icefields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper is 143 miles of pure scenic gold. Every twist and turn offers a new photo-worthy moment—glaciers clinging to cliffs, teal-colored rivers, and mountain views that feel straight out of a fantasy novel. Bow Lake – Calm and Captivating We pulled over at Bow Lake on a whim, and it ended up being one of our favorite stops. The water is unbelievably clear and calm, reflecting the mountains like a mirror. It’s less crowded than some of the other spots, making it a great place to take a peaceful stroll or just sit by the shore and breathe it all in. Sunwapta Falls – Nature’s Raw Energy Another must-see on the Parkway is Sunwapta Falls. The upper falls are right by the parking lot and are absolutely thunderous, especially during the spring melt. We took a short hike down to the lower falls too—totally worth it for the more secluded views and the sounds of nature all around. Maligne Lake – Postcard-Perfect Views We headed towards Maligne Lake in Jasper Park, and it was everything we’d hoped for. The water is that classic glacial blue, and the views of Spirit Island are iconic for a reason. We took a boat cruise out to the island—calm, scenic, and just the right amount of adventure. It’s one of those places that makes you slow down and just be present. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge – Rustic Luxury We wrapped up our trip at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and it was the perfect way to end the adventure. Nestled right on the edge of a lake with mountain views in every direction, it combines rustic charm with a touch of luxury. We saw elk casually walking across the lawn and spent the evening by the fireplace—honestly, we didn’t want to leave. Have more time? Take a deeper dive… Dive Deeper into These Destinations Peyto Lake – Famous for its wolf-head shape and striking turquoise color. Valley of the Five Lakes – Easy hike with five colorful lakes, each more stunning than the last. Mount Edith Cavell – Scenic spot with glaciers, wildflowers, and dramatic mountain views. Lake Louise

Lake Louise Lake Louise: A Breathtaking Journey Through Glacial Lakes & Alpine Wonders Canoeing on Lake Louise – The Best Seat in the House If there’s one thing you have to do at Lake Louise, it’s renting a canoe and paddling across that unreal turquoise water. It’s a bit pricey, but trust me, the experience is worth every penny. There’s something magical about floating in the middle of the lake, surrounded by towering peaks and the majestic Victoria Glacier. If you can, go early in the morning—the water is calmer, the crowds are thinner, and the whole place feels even more peaceful. Lake Louise – The Classic Beauty No matter how many photos you’ve seen, nothing prepares you for how stunning Lake Louise is in person. The water is so vividly blue it looks like someone cranked up the saturation in real life. A simple walk along the lakeshore is enough to leave you speechless, but if you’re up for a little adventure, hiking up to the Lake Agnes Tea House rewards you with a cozy cabin in the mountains serving hot tea and homemade treats. Wapta Falls – A Hidden Gem If you love waterfalls, Wapta Falls is a must. Tucked away in Yoho National Park, it’s a short, easy hike that leads you to a powerful, roaring cascade. The best part? It’s usually not packed with tourists, so you can actually enjoy the sound of rushing water and the mist in the air without the crowds. Emerald Lake – Nature’s Perfect Escape As if Lake Louise wasn’t enough, Emerald Lake takes things to another level. True to its name, the water is a rich, jewel-toned green that looks almost too beautiful to be real. It’s a quieter, less crowded alternative to Lake Louise, making it the perfect spot for a peaceful paddle or a scenic hike. Even if you just sit by the shore and take it all in, you won’t regret stopping here. Natural Bridge – Where Water Shapes Stone This isn’t just another pretty lookout point—it’s a reminder of how powerful nature can be. Over thousands of years, the Kicking Horse River has carved its way through solid rock, creating a natural bridge that’s both beautiful and a little mind-blowing. It’s a quick stop on the way to Emerald Lake, but it’s definitely worth pulling over for. Lake Louise Inn – Your Cozy Mountain Hideaway After a full day of exploring, there’s nothing better than coming back to a warm, cozy place to relax. Lake Louise Inn is the perfect base for your adventures—comfortable rooms, hot tubs with mountain views, and a fireplace to unwind by. Whether you’re here for just a weekend or a longer stay, this place will make you feel right at home in the Rockies. Have more time? Take a deeper dive… Dive Deeper into These Destinations Big Beehive – A scenic hike offering a stunning bird’s-eye view of Lake Louise, perfect for adventure seekers. Mistaya Canyon – A hidden gem where glacial waters have carved deep, swirling formations into the rock.
