Juneau

Chasing Glaciers & Mountain Views

Juneau, Alaska’s remote and breathtaking capital, is a place where towering glaciers meet lush forests, and adventure awaits at every turn. Arriving in Juneau felt like stepping into a postcard—snow-capped peaks, crisp mountain air, and the kind of untouched beauty that makes you pause and take it all in.

A Glacier Like No Other

On June 19, my adventure began with a bus ride to Mendenhall Glacier, a stunning 13-mile-long river of ice nestled within the Tongass National Forest. As I stepped off the bus, the view was jaw-dropping—massive ice walls shimmering in shades of blue, reflecting in the glacial lake below.

A short hike led me to Nugget Falls, a roaring waterfall that cascades down near the glacier, adding even more drama to the already surreal landscape. Standing there, feeling the cool mist on my face, I realized just how powerful and alive this land truly is.

Rising Above Juneau

Next, I hopped on the Goldbelt Tram for a ride up Mount Roberts, climbing 1,800 feet in just a few minutes. As the tram ascended, Juneau unfolded below—glittering waters, winding fjords, and the endless wilderness beyond. At the top, the views were nothing short of breathtaking, with the city appearing like a tiny speck in the vast Alaskan expanse.

Hiking in the Clouds

At the summit, I laced up my boots and hit the Mount Roberts Trail, a network of hiking paths that led deeper into the forested mountains. Wildflowers dotted the landscape, bald eagles soared overhead, and the fresh mountain air filled my lungs. It was one of those rare moments where time slows down, and you feel completely connected to nature.

A Day to Remember

Juneau may be small, but its wild beauty is beyond words. From the icy magic of Mendenhall Glacier to the panoramic heights of Mount Roberts, this was a day packed with awe-inspiring moments. Whether you’re chasing glaciers, hiking through the clouds, or simply soaking in the Alaskan spirit, Juneau delivers an adventure you won’t soon forget.
