Staying at the Marriott Riverfront provided a convenient base for exploring the city, with plenty of opportunities to mix history, food, leisurely walks, and a little time by the coast.

Along the Historic Riverfront

Time along River Street brought Savannah’s historic character into focus, with cobblestone paths, old buildings, riverside views, and the steady activity of shops, restaurants, and passing ships. The location of the Marriott Riverfront made it easy to step out and explore this part of the city, with an occasional riverside walk adding an easy start or end to the day.

Sweet Stops & Southern Streets

A stop at Leopold’s Ice Cream added one of Savannah’s classic treats to the itinerary. From there, the exploration continued through Forsyth Park, with its open lawns and famous fountain, before wandering along Jones Street, where historic homes and oak-lined sidewalks offered some of the city’s most picturesque scenery. A little unplanned wandering through these streets made the experience feel less like a checklist and more like simply discovering Savannah together.

Beneath the Oaks of Wormsloe

One of the standout sights was the Wormsloe Oak Tree Arch, where towering live oaks create a dramatic entrance framed by Spanish moss. The drive beneath the canopy offered a striking change from Savannah’s urban streets, opening into the quieter landscapes of Georgia’s Lowcountry. It was the kind of place worth slowing down for, with the scenery doing most of the work.

History, Food & Unexpected Discoveries

The Prohibition Museum brought another dimension to the trip, offering an engaging look at America’s Prohibition era and the stories surrounding it. Food added plenty of variety as well, including Vietnamese cuisine at Le Banh, which provided a welcome change from the Southern flavors around the city. Between museum exhibits, meals, and wandering through historic neighborhoods, Savannah managed to keep the days varied without feeling rushed.

A Coastal Break Beyond the City

Before leaving Savannah, time at an island beach offered a final change of scenery. Open skies, sand, and coastal surroundings provided a relaxed contrast to the historic architecture and busy riverfront. After a few days of exploring Savannah’s streets, sharing the beach and taking in the quieter coastal setting made for a fitting close to this chapter of the journey.
