Tallinn, Estonia

City with a Modern Twist

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is like stepping into a medieval fairytale. With its cobbled streets, colorful old buildings and towering church spires, it feels like a city frozen in time. But beyond its historic charm, Tallinn is also full of trendy cafés, creative spaces and a buzzing modern culture.

Exploring the Old Town

I started my journey in Tallinn’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site that looks straight out of a storybook. The Town Hall Square was lively with people, and the medieval-style buildings added to the charm. Walking through the narrow streets, I found the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, an impressive Russian Orthodox church, and climbed to the top of St. Olaf’s Church for the best city views.

One of my favorite spots was Toompea Hill, where the Toompea Castle stands. From the Kohtuotsa Viewing Platform, I got a breathtaking view of the city’s red rooftops stretching out to the Baltic Sea. It was the perfect place to soak in the beauty of Tallinn.

A Cool and Creative Side

Tallinn isn’t just about history—it has a fun, modern side too. I visited Telliskivi Creative City, an old industrial area now filled with cool street art, boutique shops, and cozy cafés. It’s the best place to see how Tallinn blends old and new.

Café Hopping and Local Tastes

Estonians love their coffee. I understood why when I stopped at Maiasmokk Café, the oldest café in Estonia, and enjoyed a warm cup of coffee with Kama, a traditional Estonian dessert. Later, I tried Vana Tallinn, a local spiced liqueur, which was the perfect way to warm up on a chilly evening.

Why Tallinn is Worth Visiting

Tallinn is a city that feels magical, with its medieval charm, stunning views, and modern energy. It’s small enough to explore on foot but full of hidden gems to discover.

As I walked through the quiet streets at night, with the city lights reflecting on the cobblestones, I knew I had fallen in love with this Baltic beauty. If you’re looking for a destination that’s both historic and exciting, Tallinn is the perfect place to visit!
